Graduation Planning

Diploma Requirements

Core 40: In 2007, the Indiana General Assembly made the Core 40 Diploma a graduation requirement for students in high school. It is also the minimum requirement for acceptance into a public, four-year college in Indiana. The Core 40 gives students more opportunities post-graduation, whether that includes the workforce, military duty, traditional college, or other post-secondary training. Scottsburg High School has a local policy that requires 4 additional credits for a total of 44 credits for the SHS Core 40. These additional credits include Digital Citizenship & Applications; Preparing for College & Careers.

Core 40 with Academic Honors: Students must complete all of the Core 40 requirements, with additional math, world language, and fine arts credits, stricter GPA guidelines, and take an AP or dual credit course or receive certain scores on standardized tests.

Core 40 with Technical Honors: Students must complete all of the Core 40 requirements, take specific college and career preparation courses, and take an AP or dual credit course or receive certain scores on standardized tests.
