Entrepreneurship & Maverick Challenge FBLA

SHS Maverick Challenge

The Mid-America Science Park and the Scott County Chamber of Commerce sponsor an annual Maverick Challenge-Business Planning Competition, in which this club competes. The competition helps students further develop the innovative spirit of Scott County and shows students viable career opportunities through entrepreneurship. Students work individually or in teams of no more than three people. The students have access to all the tools needed to take their idea from concept and into developing it as a full business plan. Workshops and online tools are offered in the development phase of the project. Later, students present their business plan to successful entrepreneurs and business service providers. Prizes totaling more than $1,000 are given to the winning teams or individuals. This opportunity allows students to learn about careers, network, be mentored by entrepreneurs in the community, and spotlight the young innovators in Scott County.

In 2019, the SHS Maverick Challenge members won the regional competition, taking home a $1,500 prize for their business idea.
